New So for now I will not go into too much detail, but I am finally done dealing with and relying on Facebook. I do not agree with their shady practices with which they handle peoples personal data, and I am finally no longer condoning their practices by using their services (over all).

For the longest time I relied on their plugins for mostly comments, since it was such an easy code to use, which made it very convenient. But no longer. So because of that, I had to actually work on something that's been on my mind for a while.

Basically, I ripped out the old 'Blog Comments' functionality, and converted that to a more general "Site Comments" set of functions. Honestly, it's pretty poorly implemented, but it works, and at least seems to work well, so that's all that really matters to me. This entire site is still nothing more than a 'beta' version anyway; everything needs to be reworked and re-coded from the ground up at some point anyway.

So as of this post, there are now comment features on Blogs, Polls and Member Profiles (DJ Profiles on Scrub Radio have been done as well, with Band Pages to come at some point). There is still work to be done here, but for now, it's good enough for me.

To get comments on your Member Profile page, simply update your account (My Account -> Update Profile). There will be a Yes/No selection drop down asking if you want comments on your Profile Page. The Facebook stuff is still there in most (if not all) areas in terms of asking if you want to use them, but the comment boxes themselves for Facebook have been disabled at a base level. Expect that all to get ripped out eventually.

If you have any questions, suggestions or feedback, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you!

New As a side note, I have to say that the sites (here and at Scrub Radio) load a whole lot faster and smoother than they ever did while running the Facebook plugins. So I call that a plus...

New For right now, I have re-enabled the Facebook Comments plugin, in a limited way. Under the 'Site Comments', you should now see an option to 'Load Facebook Comments'. It's a link you have to click to reload the page with FB comments enabled. I don't know how long I'll keep this, as I just don't care about Facebook crap. But... For now... I guess I'll allow it. :-@ :-@ :-@

New This is just an FYI kinda thing, but I wanted to let anyone who might be interested know that I have once again, and possibly permanently disabled Facebook comments. I am actually in the process of deleting my FB pages, which takes 14 days to process for whatever reason. Once that is done I will be deleting my account there as well.

I am just done with Facebook.

New Just because I have nothing to lose at this point, I tweaked the site comments feature to allow guests to post. In addition to the comment field itself, a guest will have to also enter a 'Guest Name' as well as solve a CAPTCHA thing.

I'm not the biggest fan of guest postings, and this is bare minimum requirements; an email address and validation of that email should be required, but I really don't want to put that much effort into something I don't want in the first place.

However, it's not like there is a user base here and if this gets even SOME actual dialog going maybe it's worth it.

Anyway, guests can (for now) post comments on Blogs, Polls, Gallery Photos and Members Profiles.

New Something I may do is add a 'Status' type field so that guest posts have to be approved by an Admin before they show up, and member posts can bypass that requirement. Unfortunately that too is more work than I would prefer to do on this. But if guest posts become a problem I may have to...
